Esthetics Questions & Answers 2020

Here are a few questions related to the Esthetics Competitions:

1. Is the orientation meeting taking place on March 26th?  Do you know the times and places for the championships?

I will be sending out a schedule with times and places shortly. This should answer your question once that email goes out to everyone.

2. On the leather shoes, are doc martins ok if they are all black?  Does the sole also have to be black, or could it be brown?

If they are all leather I believe this is fine. If they have shoe laces they could possibly be rejected at nationals. At state the judges will only have a column that says black leather work shoes, with no specifics so it will be their decision.

3. Can the students glue on glitter to the face?  If so, can they use lash glue?

Anything that is used as makeup and is labeled safe for it can be used on the skin. Glitter will be acceptable if it is labeled as safe to use. Yes you can apply it with lash glue.

4. Do the eyeshadow pallets they work from need to be brand new?  In the packaging?  Or can they use the ones they are practicing with?

All products need to be brought in original packaging but they do not have to be brand new. They can use the pallets they have been practicing from.

5. Can they touch the face with their fingers to blend the makeup?  Would they need to sanitize their hands immediately?

Yes they can use their fingers to blend makeup. No they do not need to sanitize immediately after. They are allowed to touch the clients skin as they are working. Sanitizing the hands is only necessary when the hands become contaminated.

6. Can they use an airbrush?

No.

7. Can they use magnetic lashes?  Are the models allowed to have their lashes already done?

Yes they can use magnetic lashes. At nationals they have not been specific about having lashes already done. It is something that has been left open. At the state competition there will be no deductions for lash extensions.

8. Can you double dip from the pallet that contains all of the product you took from their original containers?

Yes. I am assuming that you mean product has been removed and placed in a new palette. If this is the case they are allowed to dip in to that as much as they need. There will only be deductions for double dipping into original packages.

9. Can the contestants wear a black hair tie in their hair with it being pulled back?

Yes.

Esthetics Skills Competition 2020

We have made a few changes for 2020!

The competition will now be one day only. Held on March 26 at 10am at MTEC Lehi Campus/ 2301 W. Ashton Blvd. (Thanksgiving Point)

1.       The award ceremony will be Friday March 27 at SLCC.

2.       We have shortened the competition quite a bit. I have attached the schedule for the day. As you can see we have removed the orientation night. Please have your students prepped and ready to compete when they come on March 26^th. If you have any questions please reach out and I will make sure everyone receives the answer. 3.       There will also be no kit check so only supplies needed will be required. This does not mean that sanitation can be forgotten, please make sure that your contestant is still bringing all items in original packaging.

4.       Please make sure you are using the updated Esthetics competition guidelines for 2020.

5.       We will be competing in the following items

a.       Facial Cleansing

b.      Facial Massage

c.       Beauty Makeup

d.      Fantasy Makeup (Theme Mythology)

6.       I have attached a note that all Judges will be receiving (See below). This is a note on some specific rules that are listed in the national standards. It is also a sanitation guideline for the judges to follow. Please read over it and prepare your students to follow these.

• .       Each school is responsible for providing one judge who has been disconnected from your school/students for at least 2 years.
• .       Please supply six judge prizes on the day of the competition so they can be given at the end of each of the events.
• .       Please supply six contestant prizes on the day of competition so they can be given at the award ceremony on Friday.

10:00-10:30am (be early) Roll Call/ Skills USA standard dress check

-Turn in Resume, Fantasy Makeup photo and written demonstration

10:30-10:40 set up for Basic Facial (10 minutes)

10:40-10:55 Cleansing the face and Facial massage (15 minutes)

11:00-11:30 Basic facial (30 minutes)

11:30 Clean up

11:30 Lunch Break

12:30-12:45 set up Beauty make up (15 minutes)

12:45-1:45 Beauty Make up (60 minutes)

1:45-2:00 Judging beauty make up/Clean up

2:00-2:15 set up for Fantasy Make up (15 minutes)

2:15-3:30 Fantasy Make up (75 Minutes)

3:30-3:45 Judging Fantasy Make up

3:45 Prop Additions/Parade of Models

Friday March 27, 2020

6:00-8:00 Closing Ceremonies will be held at SLCC in the Gymnasium (Life Activities Center)

Judges Notes -

1.       Sanitation deductions should include:   

a.       Touching hair without sanitizing after

b.      Esthetician toughing their own face or hair without sanitizing after

c.       Double dipping into original packaged items

d.      Getting into kit without sanitizing hands

e.      Ect.

2.       Students may communicate with their models but may not have a conversation that does not pertain to the task.

3.       Skills USA Steaming the face: To demonstrate steaming the face contestants are to drape the face with a warm towel and slightly lift the towel off the skin, this should be held for about 20 seconds.

4.       Each time a warm towel is used the competitors should wring the towel out over a trash can and test the temperature on their wrist.
